Many people view honey bees, bumblebees and other similar insects as mere pests – especially since allergic reactions to their stings are quite rampant. What many people don’t realise, though, is that bees are very important to the economy of the UK. In terms of farming, which is still an integral part of the economy of the country, bees help in many significant ways. Most importantly, they pollinate plants so that they reproduce and create new crops; they also achieve maturation in this way. Without bees’ help, many crops would be in dire straits. Scientists are scrambling to find ways to boost the number of bees and other pollinators in the UK, as their numbers have been declining for many years now. (more…)
